Where good products go to die
RSO:
The RSO project was going to parallel the restoration of a friends RSO. We figured that since we had one on hand, it would be easy to accurately copy. The engine, transmission and differential would be modern, domestic truck parts, but other wise accurate. Unfortunately, he (the other RSO guy) is not moving forward on the restoration at this time, so we suspended our build.
OTHER FACTORS
Tony and I thought about going it alone (we had measured and document 4 different RSO and even roughed up a cab). But, the same casting house that was making the Field Stove parts for Tom, returned quotes for track links in the $20,000 range (complete sets). At that point I started thinking that if I'm going to spend $20K on tracks for a "tractor", why not spend that on tracks for a tank (more "bang" for the "buck")?
The track link quote, and the prospect of building an RSO from scratch, and then having to do the whole thing again, when the other guy finally makes up his mind about his restoration, was too much. I wanted to do them in tandem, or not at all.
PAPER PRODUCTS:
The tobacco and ammunition paper products are the finest quality reproduction items I've ever seen. They are indistinguishable from the originals. But, the manufacturer seems to have lost interest for now. He does not want to sell direct to end users, and is not actively seeking a retailer. So, as they say, that's that.
STOVE/HEATER:
We have done everything we can to try and motivate the the Field Stove guy back into production. Apparently, he's done with this.
